Start with elapsed shift time

Find the time from clock-in to clock-out before subtracting any unpaid breaks.

Subtract the unpaid lunch

Paid minutes = elapsed minutes − unpaid break minutes

A 30-minute lunch removes 0.50 hour; a 45-minute lunch removes 0.75 hour; a 60-minute lunch removes 1.00 hour.

Example

8:15 AM to 4:45 PM is 8.5 elapsed hours. Subtract a 30-minute lunch and paid time is 8.0 hours.
