Formula and method

Total miles = one-way distance × trip legs. Fuel = total miles ÷ MPG. Cost = fuel × price per gallon.

Example

A 150-mile route driven round trip is 300 miles. At 25 MPG and $3.40 per gallon, fuel cost is about $40.80.
