Formula and method

Battery energy added = battery capacity × (end% − start%). Wall energy = battery energy added ÷ charging efficiency. Cost = wall energy × electricity rate.

Example

Adding 60% to a 75 kWh battery puts 45 kWh into the battery. At 90% efficiency, about 50 kWh comes from the wall.

Important assumptions

Charging losses, utility rate structures, session fees and charger pricing can change the real cost.
