How to use this temperature converter

Enter the requested values above and select Calculate. The result updates immediately on the page, so you can change one value and compare different scenarios without leaving the calculator.

Formula and method

Celsius is used as the intermediate scale: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15.

Example

Convert 72°F to Celsius or 20°C to Fahrenheit.

What this calculator is useful for

Convert temperature between Fahrenheit, Celsius and Kelvin. It is designed for quick estimates and everyday problem solving. When a calculation affects a contract, tax filing, medical decision or other high-stakes situation, verify the result with the appropriate professional or authoritative source.

Convert a familiar temperature between scales

68°F equals (68 − 32) × 5/9 = 20°C. To convert Celsius to Kelvin, add 273.15; therefore 20°C is 293.15 K.

Important distinction: Fahrenheit-to-Celsius is not a simple multiplication because the scales have different zero points. Values below absolute zero (−273.15°C, −459.67°F, or 0 K) are not physically valid temperatures.
