Count the days between two dates

Enter any start and end date. The calculator shows calendar days, full weeks, weekdays and weekend days. Choose Inclusive if both the start date and end date should count.

Standard day difference = later date − earlier date

Inclusive vs. exclusive counting

January 1 to January 2 is one day apart using standard date subtraction. Inclusive counting treats both dates as counted calendar dates, so the count is two.

Weekdays and weekend days

The weekday result counts Monday through Friday and the weekend result counts Saturday and Sunday. It does not automatically exclude holidays. For workday calculations that can account for holiday rules, use the business days calculator.

Related date calculators

Convert the span to weeks between dates, months between dates, or use the add or subtract days calculator to move forward or backward from a date.

October 1 to October 11: 10 days apart

Subtracting October 1 from October 11 gives 10 elapsed calendar days. Choose inclusive counting to count both October 1 and October 11, which produces 11 days.

How to interpret the result

The difference between two dates is not always the same as the number of dates included in a booking, schedule, or attendance period.

Important limitation

Weekdays exclude Saturday and Sunday, but not public holidays. For working-day calculations, use the business-day tool.

Does the calculator count the starting date?

Standard mode does not. Choose inclusive mode when both endpoint dates should count.

Can the dates be entered in either order?

Yes. The calculator uses the absolute difference and works if the earlier date is entered second.
